I know, I know, a Footloose remake and for real seriously and whatever but wait: It was directed by Craig Brewer, who did Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan, two of the most interesting and trickiest and controversial and skeeviest and impressive films of the past few years, and—I'm guessing as a result of Brewer—this Footloose rehash looks kind of... awesome?

I know, it'll probably be soulless and tired and pointless, but Brewer's involvement is making me think this thing has a slight chance to be something more than just one more unasked-for remake. Also, I kind of hope the climactic dance is set to "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp," with Kevin Bacon Jr. up there taking on the Terrence Howard part. The old-school Footloose is great and all, but I think we can all agree it did not feature a single character who was a pimp. Unless Chris Penn was up to something that I didn't catch on to.

Yes. I know a lot about Footloose. It's a long story.*

*My mom really liked it.**

**She also really liked Misery, which makes me wonder if if she was the one who made this. Yeah. It was probably her.
