The Dark Knight Rises‘ okay-but-not-particularly-thrilling ad campaign continues with a new trailer, in which Batman jacks Marty McFly’s ride from Back to the Future II and Bane continues to look and sound like a dude camped outside the Rose Garden to attend a live taping of WWE Raw. I have little doubt Nolan will bring the thudding, visceral spectacle in this thing—that’s what he does, and he does it well, even when his stories don’t hold up—but as far as this summer’s comic book cash-ins go? Batman’s looking pretty anemic compared to everything the Avengers have to offer. And let’s not even talk about how things are looking for poor Spidey.

I like the way Spiderman looks. I think it would have been better to kept with the fleshy webshooters. But that’s a small gripe.
Bane is the lamest Batman villain. It is known.
I have faith in Nolan, for sure, but this trailer looks… sleepy. And I have a terrible, totally unfounded feeling that Alfred is future-talking to, like, a baby Batman or some other horrible deviation, and that that’s the last scene of the trilogy. ๐
COULD HE FORESHADOW THAT BATMAN IS GOING TO DIE ANY MORE? AT THIS POINT, HIM NOT DYING WILL BE THE TWIST.
BUT AT LEAST HE BROKE THAT AWFUL, “BUUUNNH, BUUUUNH, BUUUUNNNNH” TRAILER MUSIC TRADITION THAT HE POPULARIZED WITH INCEPTION.
Yeah, I am not feeling this one less and less. I think the GRIMDARK tone is out of step with what mainstream audiences want these days.
Watch those double negatives, c&b.
I’m guessing Bane’s dental hygiene isn’t great, maybe brutal halitosis is Gotham’s reckoning.
Bane can never be the lamest Batman villain in a world where the Mad Hatter is a still a thing.
It’s gotta be difficult to cat-burgle while wearing six inch stilettos.
This looks super lame. Then again, I’m one of those weird people that didn’t like The Dark Knight, so what do I know?
I’ve never understood the “knight” thing. Can someone explain this to me? Batman is like antiquated soldier on a horse doing the bidding of some feudal superiors? I guess “knight” sounds better than “vigilante.”
@ROCKTIMUS PRIME, FC: THERE’S SOME ABSOLUTELY AWFUL BATMAN VILLAINS, BANE AS A STRATEGIC-GENIUS STEROID-ABUSING LUCHADORE IS NOWHERE NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THAT LIST. BY THE WAY, HERE’S A LIST: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Batma… BATMAN HAS BOTH FIREFLY AND FIREBUG AS VILLAINS. SO… YEAH…
I had Bane’s first appearance and all of Knightfall before my comics were robbed. I just don’t like the dude. They’ve clearly picked him as the villain because they want to (cash-in) end the Nolan era movies.
Mad Hatter is awesome.
