As hardcore Joss Whedon fans know (are there any other kind? any other creepy, terrifying kind?), years ago there was supposed to be an animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The show never ended up happening, but a four-minute-long demo reel was made to try and sell the series, featuring the voices of Anthony Stewart Head, Nicholas Brendan, and Alyson Hannigan. (Sarah Michelle Gellar was apparently too busy plotting out career suicide with The Grudge and Scooby Doo 2 to be bothered.) Years later, that presentation’s surfaced.

Like Ripper, the animated version of Buffy seems like one more thing in the Buffyverse that’ll be talked about a lot and then never end up happening… which, based on this footage, is pretty alright with me. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Buffy–but aside from a few great moments (Buffy fumbling her stake, Xander’s comment about his dancing shoes and his standing in the corner not talking to anyone t-shirt), this thing feels pretty weak.

Goddammit. Ripper would still be awesome, but Giles is like 800 years old now.

Via AICN, who, in their constant pimping of their advertisers at Amazon.com their admirable reporting about legitimate news stories, also point out that there’s a limited-time sale on Firefly right this very second, with the whole series available for less than $20. Have at, Whedon obsessives.
