Jodie Foster gave a long, personal interview to the Hollywood Reporter about strep throat, her new movie The Beaver, and Mel Gibson. It’s worth a read.

โ€œHeโ€™s so incredibly loving and sensitive, he really is,โ€ she says. โ€œHe is the most loved actor I have ever worked with on a movie. And heโ€™s not saintly, and heโ€™s got a big mouth, and heโ€™ll do gross things your nephew would do. But I knew the minute I met him that I would love him the rest of my life.โ€

She adds: โ€œI know him in a very complex way. Heโ€™s a real person; heโ€™s not a cardboard cutout. I know that he has troubles, and when you love somebody you donโ€™t just walk away from them when they are struggling.โ€

Also this sentence happens:

Foster and Gibson โ€” the yin and yang of American pop culture, its moral avatar and current nemesis โ€” have been close friends since they met on 1994โ€™s Maverick.

Whatever you say, Hollywood Reporter.

And in case you forgot, here’s the trailer for The Beaver. I feel like there’s a tiny-slender-slim chance that it might actually be good. Maybe.
