As if knowing the deepest depths of holiday malaise are currently feasting upon our souls, draining us dry of joy and pleasure, today the movie gods have given us a gift—a gift to remind us that, after this shitty month full of shitty news and shitty obligations, and after that next shitty stretch of January and February and March, where shitty movies go to die their shitty deaths, there is a bright beam of beautiful light dancing along the horizon.

That light is a new Shane Black movie—his first since Iron Man 3, and a “spiritual sequel” to Shane Black’s best film, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. In related news, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a film that instead of being called “Shane Black’s best film” can also just be called “the best film.”

Here’s a NSFW trailer for The Nice Guys, starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. Watch it, and remember what it feels like to hope.
