STARTING THIS FRIDAY, the Northwest Film Center presents Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata, and the Masters of Studio Ghibli, a series that showcases brand-new 35mm prints of 13 films from Studio Ghibli. The Japanese studio responsible for some of the world’s most acclaimed animation, Studio Ghibli’s films work best on the big screen—particularly the ones directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Comics creator Natalie Nourigat has some opinions on which Ghibli films you shouldn’t miss. Fri May 4-Sun May 27, Northwest Film Center’s Whitsell Auditorium, see Movie Times and nwfilm.org for more info

  1. I think I must love ‘Castle in the Sky’ more than you do, and ‘Porco Roco’ too, for that manner.
Though not from Miyazaki, I’d suggest Takahata’s ‘Grave of the Fireflies’ too. It’ll break your heart.

  2. Spirited Away is just sublime, it’s moving and fantastic without being cliched or cloying.

And Totoro is obviously the best thing ever for all time.
