The 2012 Crickatho—er, Pickathon festival has announced the daily schedules for this year, allowing anal rententive planner-aheaders the chance to spend the next few weeks plotting out their Pickathon weekend (August 3-5). Pickathon has also announced single-day tickets will go on sale today at noon, so you can pick and choose which day you want to go if you can't throw down for the full weekend. They've also elaborated on this year's kid-friendly activities and announced a theatrical production of Twelfth Night will be part of this year's program as well. More details on that here.
I'm telling you all this because I'm of the opinion that Pickathon is perhaps the highlight of Portland summer, a festival without all the hangups and irritations of other music festivals. It's not the hippie fest that people can make it out to be—and why would that be a problem? You live in Oregon; that automatically makes you part hippie anyway. This year's music lineup is outstanding: Neko Case, the Barr Brothers, the War on Drugs, Sonny and the Sunsets, and Thee Oh Sees are just a handful of excellent bands that I'm pulling off the top of my head. Every year the not-easily-impressed Merc crew makes the short trek out to Pendarvis Farm, and every year has a blast. You come, too.
