This paper cycle turned out to be quite a busy one for live music, both local and otherwise, and there are a number of shows we couldn't wedge into the paper this week due to space and time. Luckily the rules of space and time do not apply here on the blog* so let me fill you in with some quick bites of info. Think of this blog post as an appendix to the voluminous information already provided in this week's Mercury**. Ready, steady, read***!

• First of all, Sam Cooper is wrapping up a weeklong residency at Al's Den (303 SW 12th) on Saturday night (Sept 29, tomorrow) with the official CD release show for his new record Long Lost Love. Cooper—who's played with Horse Feathers, Jared Mees and the Grown Children, and Sean Flinn and the Royal We—has had special guests all week long, and on Saturday, his band the Earthquakes will help him usher the album into the world. Here's an embed of the fine new album (it's also on Bandcamp), which Cooper played largely by himself (drummer Nick Werth helped).
• Speaking of CD releases, Bison Bison also are thrusting their new one into the world. The self-titled debut sees the Portland band blazing their way through some great bong-burning guitar riffs that echo classic proto-metal and stoner rock. It's a damn kick, and Bison Bison play an early show at the Fixin' To (8218 N Lombard), starting at 5:30 pm on Saturday, September 29 (tomorrow). Bad Assets, Full Moon Radio, and Good Intentions are also on the bill. In the meantime, put some of Bison Bison's thicksnake rock in your ears:
• While we're on the topic of CD releases, the Don of Division St. has one tonight, at the Alberta Rose Theatre (3000 NE Alberta). The Don is actually drummer Matt Cadenelli, and L'Amourita is his second album as a songwriter. I haven't heard it, but you can get a taste of the Don over on Reverbnation.
• Portland songwriter Alan Singley premieres his new work tomorrow night (Sat Sept 29) at the Old Church (1422 SW 11th). He's written two orchestral song cycles—they're not exactly symphonies, as I understand it—as his first public foray into the classical world, and the show is a fundraiser for the Old Church with a sliding scale admission. • Last thing! We did mention the Tender Loving Empire five-year anniversary party—their un-birthday, as they describe it—that's taking place tomorrow (Sat Sept 29) at Mississippi Studios (3939 N Mississippi). But we didn't specifically mention LA band Body Parts, who are driving up all the way for both this show and their Sunday night show at Rontoms (600 E Burnside).
