PDX Pop Now!, the all-local, all-free, all-ages music festival that has become a Portland institution, has announced the dates and venue of this year’s festival. It will be taking place on July 22-24 for three days of glorious summertime music action, once again under the east side of the Hawthorne Bridge, outside of AudioCinemaโthe same place the festival was held last year. PDX Pop tells the Mercury that there will be two outdoor stages, a street fair, a record fair, and the return of the Portland band basketball tourney, Rigsketball. To begin the Saturday and Sunday lineups of the festival, Music in the Schools is curating sets by local high school musicians.
You can also see the 2016 PDX Pop Now! artwork above, which was commissioned from Portland-based, McMinnville-born artist Glenn Allen Henrickson. It’s a pretty rad poster, which I will hereafter refer to as “Rainbow Jaguar.” Check out more of Hendrickson’s art on his Instagram.
Additionally, PDX Pop has opened submissions for the 2016 compilation, which has become a yearbook of sorts documenting the best and freshest on the Portland music scene. The exhaustive listening process to select the songs for this year’s comp includes all the PDX Pop Now! board members and more than 100 volunteers. Bands can submit their music for this year’s compilation right here. And be sure
