The local band we’ve watched rise to great heights continues to reach even greater ones: It’s just been announced that Typhoon are going to make their TV debut on the Late Show with David Letterman on August 4. Tell us more, Mr. Press Release:
Portland, Oregon’s Typhoon is thrilled to make their television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman on August 4th. Catching the attention of many, Typhoon are currently on the road in support of their EP, A New Kind Of House which NPR simply called “absolutely stunning,” and Absolute Punk raved “is the sort of album that makes me feel excited about music all over again.”
Here’s the promo video for their upcoming tour, dates of which you can view here. They’re also offering the current single “The Honest Truth” for free right here.
End Hits: In honor of Paul Shaffer, the band will be performing his classic hit, “It’s Raining Men.”

Isn’t that Sam Adams at 15-16 sec?
Weak.
To be fair, NPR slobbers over just about everybody when it’s had a few drinks.
Why does the drumming sound off? Is it because there are two of them? I can’t tell…
Anyway, that’s cool! Good for them.
I don’t care if they’ve got a hundred people on stage. Music sounds great.
Sometimes Typhoon feels like a kindergarten awards assembly wherein everyone gets an award for something so nobody feels left out, but the fact that they aren’t exactly taking advantage of their numbers never overshadows the haunting, visceral emotions conjured by the vocals specifically and their collective enthusiasm in general. My only gripe is that I wish Nora would sing more/more spiritedly.
