As part of NW Film Center’s
ongoing Top Down series, tonight’s campy punk cult fave Ladies and
Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains charts a teenage girl punk band through
a meteoric rise in the sleazy, fickle world of rock music. The movie is
preceded by the ravishing folk of Black Heart Moon. NL
Hotel deLuxe, 729 SW 15th, 8 pm, $8
It’s the art schmooze of the summer at
the Everett Station Lofts tonight, as the artists’ community opens its
rooftop for a celebration of its many talented residentsโexpect
visual art, music, performance art, and more. AH

If anything could draw me to Vernonia,
it’s the Friendship Jamboree and Logging Show, with lawnmower races,
smallest dog contest, and chainsaws. But I’m also drawn to Tualatin’s
Crawfish Festival, the biggest crawfish fest west of the Mississippi.
Damn! Why are loggers and crawfish never in the same place? PAC

Tragic Magic isn’t just the street name for
crack dipped in PCP. It’s also tonight’s one-and-done show by three of
NYC’s most hell-bent performance artistes: dirty pretty Heather Acs,
tightly dressed Glenn Marla (Miss LES 2006), and indie
director/punk queer Silas Howard. Their swirling narratives and
multimedia masturbation will mess you up pretty good. JC
Miracle Theatre, 525 SE Stark, 8 pm, $12
SATURDAY, AUGUST 8
If you’ve been suffering from a
rock-band-shaped hole in your heart, might we direct your attention to
Seattle’s BOAT, who deserve as much love as you can muster. Their

animalsโfriendly, loyal, playful, and just looking for a
good home. NL

Attention! Do not missย what could
very well be the booty-rockin’ event of the season: the Portland Cello

ass-droppin’ pop hitsโincluding songs from my beloved Justin
Timberlake! Join me in squealing, “EEEEEEE!!!” WSH

What’s amazing about Laurie Sandell’s new
graphic novel The Imposter’s Daughter: A True Memoir is that the
words tell her story of a lying father as she lived it, with decreasing
innocence along the way, while the pictures let you in on the
secretโor at least cast a heavy suspicionโfrom the very
beginning. It’s smart, but not too smart. JC
Powell’s City of Books, 1005 W Burnside, 7:30 pm, FREE
Round up your beach chair and the usual suspects,

Right up there with saunas and cold fish for
breakfast, pristinely catchy pop music is a Swedish cultural hallmark.
And while Peter Bjorn and John aren’t national icons like ABBA, and
they aren’t redโhot it girls like Lykke Li either, they’re
somewhere in between, which is a pretty damn harmonious place to be.

Each year, the wrathful Perseid
meteor shower threatens the existence of our planet with flaming rocks

know it’s certain doom! That’s why I’ll be shouting “DOOM!!!” at OMSI’s
