GAY PAREE—On the rare occasion that Woody Allen makes a decent movie these days, he should be rewarded—and by most accounts, his latest, Midnight in Paris, isn’t just decent, but may even be great. The romantic comedy features an excellent cast—Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Michael Sheen, Tom Hiddleston, and Adrien Brody—with director Allen, thankfully, back in fine form. EH

SOUL(EY) MAN—Omar Souleyman? Oh, he’s just your average mustachioed Syrian techno-pop superstar whose sound became the most unlikely of global sensations. Often working arm-in-arm with poet Mahmoud Harbi, Souleyman combines traditional Middle Eastern music with beats and synthesizers, a potent mix that caught the attention of his latest collaborator: Björk.
