But Will Business Opposition Kill the Deal Again?

Here are some suggestions for where to locate homeless camps. The best part is these are all City owned, so unlike this property, no financial outlay for acquisition.

1) Lesser City Park. Nearby access to PCC, where the homeless could develop new job skills.
2) Gabriel Park. Lot of open space, swimming pool, buildings for training, good access to mass transit.
3) George Himes City Park. For those clients that want a somewhat more rugged living experience, yet still close to downtown.
4) The portion of Eastmoreland Golf Course on the north side of Bybee. The lake could be used for bathing, and Reed College is nearby, for the benefit of the homeless to be educated, and the students to experience the plight of the downtrodden.

The fact that these properties are all located in close proximity to the homes of the Mayor and other councilors is a real bonus.

Not surprisingly this site is also located nowhere near Fritz's home. She thinks that hundreds of homeless people camping out far from her house is great, but completely opposed the idea that 1 or 2 people might live in a remodeled garage next door to her house. What a freaking hypocrite!

"...conveniently, the Portland Bureau of Development Services (BDS) says the rest area is neither a "mass shelter" nor "short-term housing."

I do feel for the city staff involved in this fabricated nonsense. The political pressure to intentionally misstate the code and the law must be giving them ulcers.

"This free shelter is too far from my free food and free meds."

The homeless can line up in front of OMSI and beg each kid for lunch money as they pile out of the school bus.

"the rest area is neither a 'mass shelter' nor 'short-term housing.'"

It's not a "camp," it's just a location where people put up their tents.

I didn't type this comment on a "computer," it's just a collection of plastic, metal and glass that interfaces with the Portland Mercury website.

Brilliant way to show off the city. Look at our new multimillion dollar no car bridge! Look at our great museum OMSI! Look at the train museum! Look at the homeless camp right next to them!

Please wait...
