UPDATE 9:30 PM
By and large it looks like tonight's protest is over, thanks to the rain and what appeared to be an overzealous reaction by the PPB to what seemed to be overall a peaceful protest. We'll be checking back in tonight sporadically to see if anything new develops. Otherwise we'll see you all for the Women's March tomorrow, and to hear what the PPB has to say for themselves. Should be interesting!
UPDATE 9:15 PM
According to various sources, Pioneer Courthouse Square is mostly empty now—though we're unsure if marchers have reconvened elsewhere.
Pioneer Square seems clear. MAX moving through, but then a line of cop cars goes screaming West. Not sure what's up.
— Dirk VanderHart (@dirquez) January 21, 2017
UPDATE 9:00 PM
Mayor Ted Wheeler and the PPB will have some explaining to do tomorrow.

UPDATE, 6:02 PM
Hey guys, it's your old pal Wm. Steven Humphrey taking over for my esteemed colleague Erik Henriksen here at Mercury Resistance & Solidarity Command Central™, where I will escort you through Donald Trump's "American carnage" for the rest of the evening. I hope he enjoys it!
But first a brief catch up of national news to provide some context: Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States this morning (ugh) just a few feet away from Hillary Clinton (gah) and what was possibly the smallest crowd to attend an inauguration in American history (SAD!).
10:34 a.m. exactly, 4 years ago and today. pic.twitter.com/HhoTQqIqsS
— Timothy Burke (@bubbaprog) January 20, 2017
His speech was divisive and terrible, naturally, and actually plagiarized the super-villain Bane from the Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. (You can't make this stuff up, folks!) Huge protests are taking place in Washington, DC with smatterings of violence here and there. (ICYMI, Neo-Nazi Richard Spencer was punched in his stupid racist Nazi face by a protester while taping an interview, and it was GLORIOUS. Fuck you, Nazi.) Trump then sat down to sign his first executive order: to "ease the economic burdens of Obamacare," which means what exactly? It means someone close to you is going to die thanks to him, probably. Anyway, that's the day so far.
Now let's check in on PORTLAND, with Mercury reporters Dirk VanderHart, Doug Brown, and Joe Streckert.
