Warning, totally necessary expletive coming up. But HOLY MOTHERFUCKER OF CHRIST. Every time le Breed throws up a new blog post I think, “no, no, don’t pay it any attention.” But EVERY TIME, he pushes it further out there. Just far enough that you can’t help but be like, “seriously?” “No…SERIOUSLY?!”

Rainy Days

March 11, 2010 at 10:13 am · Filed under Uncategorized

So the past few days have been cold and rainy in good ol’ Portland. So I’ve taken my energy inside, and have been trying to focus on work indoors. Primarily the Sam Adams Recall campaign, and my work with The New Movement.

I’ve made the decision that I want to hold a gathering somewhere in the Portland area within the next couple weeks. The goal being to put a voice to the mission I’ve set out for The New Movement. I’ve spoken with so many people about it, but have yet to get everyone together and explain what I really want to do.

What I want to do is help reinforce independence and individuality, and motivate people to not allow themselves to fall into stereotypes just because we think it’s “What is expected of us”. It can start on an individual level, and in time work it’s way through the paths of society to ignite new ways in how we represent ourselves in the move towards equal rights.

It’s so easy to fall into a stereotype because we think it’s okay or it’s what people assume we are. But by doing that, we are fighting against ourselves in advancement and equality. Why? Because we are choosing to live the “ideas” that other people have of us, and doing that only exemplifies the reasons why so many people don’t believe we should have equal rights.

I’ll be in touch in the next few days with a meeting place and time. I hope you all can come. It would be a pleasure to meet you all.

  1. So far the best “NEW MOVEMENT” website I’ve found, and believe there’s plenty googling around, is the one with this mission statement:

“We are just a group supporting the needs of America, but getting Shit Hammered while doing it!

The New Movement is about getting SHIT HAMMERED every weekend and doing it in fashion like our leader PAT!”

  2. Sounds like a young man trying to figure his shit out. He’s doing it in public because he’s been in the public spotlight for awhile now and doesn’t know how not to be. That’s partially his fault, partially Adams fault, and partially the media/public’s fault.

There is a lot of hostility built up against this young guy, all basically in defense of a very mediocre politician with poor ethical judgement and situational respect for the truth.

Again, even if a recall is too extreme, I urge all of you to really examine Adams and decide if he’s still worth your active support.

  3. Blabby — how, exactly, is this Adams’ fault? Breedlove himself is the one who went to the WWeek; the WWeek, in turn, asked Adams questions about his personal life, which had absolutely no bearing whatsoever on his political campaign.

Breedlove was the catalyst; if it’s anyone’s fault, it is his.

If he’s tired of negative attention, then he can easily avoid the spotlight — however, he chooses not to.

  4. blownspeakers, Adams contributed mightily to the situation for himself by having a sexual relationship with a teenager in the first place, then lying about it, then making unfounded smears about his political opponent, then trying to hush Breedlove up and steer his testimony. I’m far from the only person who felt that way at the time. Even Just Out called on him to resign.

You’re the perfect example of this strange defensive support for someone who doesn’t deserve it in the least. Adams is not a good man and not even a good mayor. Take off your whatever-colored glasses and have another look.

  5. 1.) Adams is no worse a mayor than many of his predecessors.

2.) Adams did nothing more than any other politician has done in order to try and keep a good name while on the political campaign. Lies, smear campaigns, hushing — Adams is not the first person to do, nor will he be the last.

3.) Yes, ‘Just Out’ did call on Adams to resign. And then mere weeks later, they pleaded with him to go after a group of vandals that were defacing ‘Just Out’ dispenser/holders/whatever downtown. So, they don’t want him as mayor, but they’re more than happy to try and call in favors when they feel like it.

I’m not necessarily a fan of Sam Adams, Blabby. I just have yet to see him do anything that every other politician before him has not done.
During his campaign for mayor, did he lie about having sex with another man? Yes.
Did that hold any relevance to holding the Mayor’s office? No.

If the people of Portland did not want Sam Adams as mayor, they would not have voted him in.
If the people of Portland felt lied to and betrayed to the point of wanting Adams to be recalled as mayor, they had their chance.

Regardless of how you, or I, or anyone else, may feel about Sam Adams as Mayor of Portland — regardless of if you think he *deserves* to be mayor — the majority of the voters of Portland put him there. And then decided they wanted him to stay there.

  6. I agree…Mayor Adams’ sex life has nothing to do with his mayoral ability. What I always have a hard time with is when asked these questions about their personal lives, why don’t celebrities and politicians just say, “that’s none of your goddamned business?” And simply move on to the next question? Honestly!

@ blownspeakers: Right on! Oh and looks like the people will now have had two opportunities to recall their mayor, both of which they are choosing not to take. The Recallยฒ movement is more of an abysmal failure than part one.

  7. At least Beau renamed his dog. ‘Lolita’ is now ‘Boston’ apparently; that is unless there was a Paris Hilton like switcheroo and this is a new animal altogether.

Defending Sam for having sex with another adult is not the same as defending his policy decisions. Sam has done plenty to piss me off on the policy front, but I still think the recall is unfair.

Having sex with a teen is legal. Don’t like it? Change the law. We have still not given any other local politicians an opportunity to lie about who they are legally having sex with, seems like a double standard. Ball accused Sam of having sex with a minor, it did not happen that way. Also Ball didn’t go to the cops, he went to Randy. Hell yeah Sam told Breedlove to keep his mouth shut, the funny thing is Beau couldn’t figure that one out on his own.

Blabby you are the one confusing the issue here, quit with the recall babble and it will be easier for the rest of us to quit defending Sam as a matter of course.

  8. Oh, let’s not forget the fabricated and force-fed to the media false accusations against Bob Ball. I suppose Beau is at fault for those, too? Adams is a pathological liar, and the wreckage is everywhere. The idea that all this is just about properly private sex is nothing but fantastical self-serving spin.

  9. Sam Adams is liar (not to mention a terrible mayor) and needs to resign.

Sam Adams is far sleazier that Beau or Bob Ball. Those two are far better men than Sam Adams could ever hope to be.

    Recall the unethical serial liar!
