In local news:

• Portland Public Schools placed Roosevelt High School on lockdown Tuesday after receiving a report of an armed student near the school campus. According to PPS, a student was robbed by another student with a weapon earlier in the day, prompting the lockdown. Astor Elementary and George Middle School were also placed on a lockout after the incident. Roosevelt students were released early afternoon from school.

• Portland police officer John Hughes was identified as the officer responsible for fatally shooting an accused carjacker on Monday. Hughes has been an officer for 17 years. In 2008, Hughes was named in a lawsuit against the Portland Police Bureau for allegedly tasing an individual while they were on their knees with their hands behind their head.

• The Oregon Housing and Community Services department sent out over 400 bad checks to Oregonians seeking emergency rent assistance. According to the department, the routing number on 468 checks was misprinted. Some check recipients were still able to cash the checks thanks to an additional bank verification process. Other recipients are being contacted to reissue the checks.

• UGH: Environment Oregon tested 30 rivers and lakes in the state and found micro plastics in all of them. “We’re hoping that this report continues to shine a spotlight on the fact that our plastic pollution problem is growing,” said Environment Oregon director Celeste Meiffren-Swango.

In national news:

• Amazon’s cloud-computing service suffered an outage Tuesday morning, creating issues for streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix, as well as stock trading apps like Robinhood and Coinbase. Amazon has not identified the cause of the service outage.

• A cyclone is dumping rain on Hawaii, prompting officials to issue major flood warnings. The storm, which started over the weekend, has knocked out power on some of the islands and is expected to continue throughout the week.

• The Capitol Police have not done enough to improve its security following the January 6 attack not he Capitol, according to the inspector general of the US Capitol Police. According to testimony by the inspector general, out of 200 security enhancement recommendations, the Capitol Police have only implemented 61.

• And finally, sorry to everyone who had to delay their DMV appointments, but Olivia Rodrigo’s tiny desk concert is more important than renewing your tags.
