A deadly incident in Afghanistan earlier today, as 30 troops (22 of whom were Navy SEALS) are killed in a helicopter crash. The Taliban is said to have shot the copter down. From the NYT:
The helicopter, on a night-raid mission in the Tangi Valley of Wardak Province, to the west of Kabul, was most likely brought down by a rocket-propelled grenade, one coalition official said.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, and they could hardly have found a more valuable target: American officials said that 22 of the dead were Navy Seal commandos, including members of Seal Team 6. Other commandos from that team conducted the raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, that killed Bin Laden in May. The officials said that those who were killed Saturday were not involved in the Pakistan mission.
CNN calls it “the single deadliest loss for U.S. troops since the Afghan war began in late 2001.”

Bummer. Can we please get our nation’s most awesome bad-asses out of the butthole of the world.
Don’t worry, his body has already been dumped into the north Atlantic sea. No photo’s will ever be released, so people shouldn’t ask, but rest assured…he does exist.
“on a night-raid mission in the Tangi Valley of Wardak Province”
…handing out candy and lollipops, right?
jake, I’d like to see you handle yourself half as well as these men were expected and performed.
@franklieb. Don’t waste your time arguing with idiots who have never achieved anything, or spent time in the service of their county. I love how anti military this town is. @ntrecek..nice propaganda spin. They were in fact reinforcing Army Rangers who were involved in a fire fight with Taliban elements. So, they were doing their jobs. And as an ex marine who served in SO, fuck you and your pseudo anti American/anti Military bullshit. That’s ok, I did my job anyway, a job I guarantee most of you don’t understand in the same way you fail to comprehend this.
No bin laden, no men left who ‘killed’ him… Lies baked with bloody lies… Grab a fork.
@showstopper
AF here. You know, the best branch.
@Britney Spears: Pay attention, these guys were in the same unit but were not part of the teams involved in the raid, a fact that’s been pointed out over and over again.
@jake; it’s ok to be stupid, the trick is not to show it off to the world. They were passengers in a chopper not fighting in battle. No one who has actually fought the Taliban thinks they’re pussy’s.
@franklieb….you bastard! I hear you guys got real food! @Kickerofelves….correct, but you are wasting your time, they lack the comprehension to get it and simply want to post a clever (subjectively) remark
