Gawker reports on the Pope’s odd habit of extensively shielding child molesters while instantly excommunicating priests who broke vows of celibacy. (Apparently, raping children does not qualify as breaking your vow of celibacy. Good to know!)
Meanwhile, Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens are plotting to have the Pope arrested for crimes against humanity. From the UK Telegraph:
Dawkin and Hitchens believe he should face criminal proceedings because his “first instinct” was to protect the church rather than the children in its care. They are hoping to exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, on a Spanish warrant when he visited Britain in 1998. The Pope will be visit London, Glasgow and Coventry, during his time in the UK between September 16 and 19.
“This is a man whose first instinct when his priests are caught with their pants down is to cover up the scandal and damn the young victims to silence,” Dawkins, who wrote The God Delusion, said.
“This man is not above or outside the law. The institutionalised concealment of child rape is a crime under any law and demands not private ceremonies of repentance or church-funded payoffs, but justice and punishment,” Hitchens, author of God Is Not Great, said.
I look forward to the leaking of the Pope’s sex tape with Justin Bieber.

If atheists get the Pope arrested, on the one hand, they will have confirmed the most paranoid fears of spiritualists.
On the other had, the dour and ruthless opinion of atheists is, as usual, probably spot on.
Like the paranoid fears that someone will make them stop raping kids? I hope this happens.
Only the Brits are fully worthy of the great faith of atheism.
Go Chris! Go Rich!
Only in a just world would this go down, but one can still dream.
Go get ’em, boys.
I’m not 100% cool with Hitchens (he’s a big-time racist, for one thing…for another he supported the Iraq War effort), but if it takes his kind to get some closure out of the Vatican, then so be it.
May the Pope get that which is coming to him if he was complicit.
Now, is the outrage and call for arrest really coming from the very same Richard Dawkins who argues that some are merely โgentle pedophilesโ and that too much is made of some cases of pedophilia???
