With the presidential race still undecided, Gov. Kate Brown has extended her Monday decision to place Oregon State Police (OSP) and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) in charge of public safety in Portland.

In a Wednesday morning statement, Brown said that the two agencies will continue to lead the local law enforcement response to protests sparked by the election until Friday at 5 pm.

โ€œAcross the United States, elections officials are working hard to ensure that every vote is counted, and it may be several days until we know the results of this election,โ€ said Brown.

โ€œAll Oregonians have the right to free expression and peaceful assembly,” she continued. “But political violence, intimidation, and property destruction will not be tolerated. We are all in this togetherโ€”so letโ€™s work together to keep our fellow Oregonians safe.โ€

Brown’s executive order, which puts Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers under the command of OSP and MCSO, was set to expire at 5 pm Wednesday evening.

Last night, hundreds of Portlanders met outside Revolution Hall and marched in the rain through Southeast Portland, decrying police violence, Donald Trump, and Mayor Ted Wheeler in different chants. No arrests were made, and police reported no property damage.

Several other racial justice and anti-Trump demonstrations are scheduled to take place across Portland this week.

  1. The Governor learned how to “lead” from the Donald Trump University of Governing By Executive Order.

And no one in Oregon is standing up to her.

We deserve so much better. We don’t deserve a fascist governor. The race for 2022 starts today, and if a socially conscious candidate doesn’t take on Brown, we will be stuck with whatever dreck the R’s come up with.

Kate Brown is the worst governor Oregon has seen in decades. She is horrible. You can admit she’s a fascist and not have to hand in your liberal or environmentalist card (and she’s neither liberal nor environmentalist, either).

  2. man. stop throwing words like โ€œfascistโ€ around. itโ€™s a historical name for an ideology, and itโ€™s both nazi-associated and unnecessarily loaded.

wanna call her a despot? go ahead! i donโ€™t care. the reality is more that sheโ€™s just another business-oriented democrat, and business in america is one of the primary drivers of oppression. and that is only the case because republicans spent 50 years busting unions and diminishing workersโ€™ rights.

so. like yeah. those are addressable collective action solutions, as opposed to railing angrily against one or another candidate or this or that ideology.

societal problems have specific pre-conditions which have brought about their current state. those conditions are the only fixable things, and as a result they seem like the most important to discuss. just my opinion as another ignorant dumb fuck millennial.
