Portland firm Gerding Edlen will design the city’s planned sustainability center up at PSU, after four teams pitched the project to a packed house at city hall two weeks ago.

The Portland Development Commission announced its intent to award the contract to the firm this morning. Gerding Edlen built the Gerding Theater, and many of the other flashy new buildings in the Pearl District. All that needs to happen now is for the city and state to secure the money to build the center, which will be no mean feat.

“It’s hard to argue with the track record Gerding Edlen brings to the table,” writes Brian Libby at the Portland Architecture blog. “The Request For Proposal process that decided this job was geared toward experience and qualifications, and the ability to get the job done. Gerding and its architect partners certainly fit those criteria.”

Green center!
