Alaska women earn less than men, were imprisoned at a higher rate during the last decade and are committing suicide at a rate twice the national average, according to a new study released Tuesday.
Most bizarre of all, a Republican state senator (Lesil McGuire) was shocked to learn that women have it hard in a state that’s governed by Republicans.

Damn Republicans.
Damn Republicans.
I bet it’s a bit odd to be a woman in a region where men outnumber you in the four-to-one range.
Also: “Lesil?” Is that pronounced like “Leslie,” except with a sharp glottal stop? Or like “Liesl,” which is to say, “weasel?”
If you are going to critisize the Republican Party, then at least do it fairly, for crying out loud. They may have many positions I don’t agree with, but blaming those things on them is just plain idiotic – at best.
Just to clarify (even though doing so strips me of a pretty good excuse for my failure to find a suitable mate when i was up there):
Alaska men outnumber women by not very much, actually. Nowhere near even 2-to-1, let alone 4-to-1. Though the man-to-women ratio is the nation’s highest, it’s still pretty darn close to 50/50.

(However, the ratio of women up there who are just as strong and manly as a typical man is a whole other story…)
Did Paul Constant start writing (read: plagiarizing) under a nom de plume?
Cheerfully withdrawn. I only had anecdeotal evidence/shit people have told me as my reference.
When her husband was convicted in Federal Court of bribery in the Alaska oil industry political corruption prosecution in the mid 2000’s, she defended him by categorizing him as “low hanging fruit.”
