In a transcribed interview from 2015, Army General Douglas Lute is quoted saying, "If the American people knew the magnitude of this dysfunction... 2,400 lives lost. Who will say this was in vain?”

Do Your Job: Days before Thanksgiving, guards at Portland's Unity Center for Behavioral Health called the police on a man with a mental illness that they said harassed a therapist and kicked a car in the parking lot. For their credit, police refused to take the man to jail, instead insisting that he been seen by Unity's psych doctors.
Death by Cop: Portland police shot and killed an unidentified person near Mall 205 Sunday afternoon. The incident marks the fifth fatal shooting by Portland police in 2019.
