Good morning, Portland! Welcome to the Dark Time.

Here are the headlines.

Articles of Impeachment: For just the fourth time in US history, Congress has presented articles of impeachment against the president. The two articles charge Donald Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Now, the Senate—which, remember, has a sycophantic Republican majority—gets to vote on whether to move forward with an impeachment trial.

Unfulfilling:

Hmmmmm: On the same day she unveiled impeachment articles against Trump, Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats are also praising Trump's proposed replacement to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The AFL-CIO, one of the strongest unions in the country, also supports the new deal, saying it includes important labor protections for workers.

Cop Shooting Update: The person who was killed by police in Southeast Portland on Sunday has been identified as 51-year-old Koben Henriksen.

Ballot Watch: Portlanders' 2020 ballot could include an ask to fund new homeless services—and that ask could total in the hundreds of millions of dollars. That's in addition to another pricey Metro measure to fund new transportation infrastructure.

Even More Ballot Watch: A group of Oregon faith leaders have filed potential statewide ballot measures that would strengthen our gun control. They're focusing on age requirements, background checks, and waiting periods, rather than any kind of all-out ban. That moderation may have something to do with the fact that stronger gun control measures are often challenged in court here.

Never Forget the 2012 Republican Convention: Clint Eastwood's newest film is taking some heat for its irresponsible portrayal of a real-life woman journalist. The film depicts her sleeping with a source, a detail which seems to be completely fabricated—and because the journalist is dead now, she can't even defend herself. Fortunately, her newspaper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is doing that for her.

Look At This Bullshit!
