Basketball! The Trail Blazers have tied up their first-round playoff series 2-2, and the opposing LA Clippers lost one of the nation’s best point guards (who’d been absolutely torching our team) to a broken hand. And now at least one Oregonian columnist is essentially guaranteeing Portland sees the second round.

The O finally got its Ted Wheeler and Jules Bailey event! After canceling a public forum earlier this year amid threats of disruption (because it just invited Wheeler and Bailey), the O teamed up with KGW, opening the station’s studio to 50 people it handpicked. The Turncoat Denis C. Theriault could be seen wearing a smart jacket-and-tie combo. Unfortunately, not much interesting came from the candidates, who are often largely the same candidate.

The Trib endorses Wheeler. Like the Oregonian. Expect endorsements (including ours!) to come rolling in this week.

By the way: TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE FOR THE MAY 17 PRIMARY. Do it.

Speaking of voting: Lots of it going down in East Coast primaries, meaning we can expect a fresh round of unsatisfying revelations about who’s got what nomination locked up.

If you haven’t heard, Oregon belongs to John Kasich now. That’s at least the word from a weird deal the Republican presidential hopeful reached with opponent Ted Cruz, in a bid to stop Donald Trump. Kasich will be in town in a couple days.

Still, that deal between Kasich and Cruz doesn’t look so healthy.

Well, look who stopped by again. The NYT writes a glowing piece on the Portland Police Bureau’s efforts to better train officers to deal with people in mental health crisis.

Maybe that training ought to extend to recording laws. Audio recordings taken by one Portland detective have come under scrutiny lately, the Trib reports, because the detective didn’t warn some suspects he had his iPhone’s recorder on.

A woman allegedly broke her foot in the shallowest pothole I’ve ever seen, and now she thinks the city owes her $50K.

Target came up with a rational
and laudable policy that accommodates transgender people’s restroom requirements. So of course everyone’s losing their minds.

Just great. A federal judge has upheld a terrible North Carolina voter identification law that accomplishes nothing but disenfranchising likely Democratic voters.

Guys, this Weather Widget is the only source I can find predicting rain today. Is it trolling us? Or is it The One?
