Add an enormous, scuttled St. Johns propane terminal and the nixed development of West Hayden Island as things State Treasurer Ted Wheeler is criticizing Mayor Charlie Hales over—even as he sort of declines to say he disagrees.
Man, Northeast Portland pot dispensary Cannacea apparently did the first day of legal sales about the worst imaginable way, giving away pot in the parking lot and not checking IDs to make sure people were 21 or over. They also didn’t bother to label or package the pot according to state law. The Oregon Health Authority doesn’t have the manpower to check out every store, so relied, in this instance, on the Oregonian to act as a narc. That’ll be $2,500, Cannacea.
Cops have identified the man who was murdered outside of Dante’s on Sunday night as 23-year-old Dion Anthony Matthews, Jr. It’s just the latest act in what’s been a really violent year. Matthews’ death marked the fifth shooting in three days. These are not streaks that Portland’s been used to recently, but they’re cropping up more and more.

Or there’s that Boise teen who shot a 15-year-old in the head, because he pointed a gun he thought was unloaded and pulled the trigger. Thank God we have guns.
You heard about this alleged serial killer who’s been quietly eking out an existence in Northeast Portland for the last three decades, right?
Amazon is still very, very salty at the New York Times for the paper’s sweeping exposé of the retailer’s rough work culture. So an Amazon executive and NYT Executive Editor Dean Baquet are taking to Medium to cross swords.
Why’s the US holding back several million dollars, out of the many millions we give to Mexico to help with the drug war? We’ve decided, apparently, we’re not cool with their government murdering people with impunity. COUGHDRONESCOUGH
And to your north, Canada has a new prime minister as the Liberal Party sweeps into power! Whatever any of that even means!

Is it possible you still haven’t seen the venerable Michigan State University football team’s miracle victory against their despised arch rivals this weekend? All your qualms about college football are well deserved. I don’t care.
