Good morning, Portland! Are you planning to shower this morning? Yes? Disgusting.

Here are the headlines.

Hate Has No Place: A Portland man who attacked two gay men in September is now the first person to be convicted under Oregon’s new bias crime law. The new law got rid of some loopholes in the old law, and resulted in a harsher sentence in this case.

Wape: Oregon’s own flavored vaping ban was temporarily suspended last week after a group of e-cigarette retailers filed a petition with the Oregon Appeals Court. Now, a vaping industry trade association is hoping to accomplish the same thing in Washington state. Let freedom ring, or something.

Tragic: A body was found in the Willamette River yesterday—and the family of Owen Kilnger, the University of Portland student who’s been missing for weeks, believes it is his body. “We deeply appreciate the extraordinary effort and support that thousands of people have provided over the past two weeks,” his family said in a statement. “We now ask for privacy as we move forward with our healing process.”

This Is Good News, I Guess?? Justin Trudeau, the liberal Canadian prime minister who has a real thing for shoe polish, has just won re-election, though his party has lost seats in parliament. Trudeau beat the conservative candidate, which is good news for anyone who worries about the rightward drift of world leaders—but this still feels like a weird one to celebrate.

Psssttt, Burnside:

Inquiry: Don’t have the time to read Ronan Farrow’s entire book? Read this Vox explainer about the connections between Trump, Harvey Weinstein, and the National Inquirer instead.

I Don’t Think So: Donald Trump recently put out an executive order giving states and local governments the power to refuse refugees—but Oregon won’t be taking him up on the offer.

New Day, New Diplomat: Gordon Sondland is old news—this week, the impeachment inquiry news cycle is all about Ambassador William Taylor, who claims he felt uneasy about Trump’s foreign relation practices. Isn’t it weird how all these diplomats felt weird about Trump, but none of them did anything about it?
