Yellow Nose—the Oryx who rose to internet fame after escaping from his Portland hills home and being spotted in Forest Park—is safely back with his owner, tech founder Reed Gleason. Gleason told the Oregonian he raises the animals, which are native to Africa, because llamas are “too snooty.” Who knew?

The Republican debate last night was a loud, yell-y, mess where moderators had a hard time getting the candidates to shut up and the candidates had a hard time citing factual facts. They also took a lot of shots at mainstream media. Here are some highlights.

Portland Commissioner Steve Novick on Wednesday suggested an interesting plan for Memorial Coliseum: Selling the land for redevelopment on the condition that affordable housing be included in whatever project goes up in the ailing building’s place.

An Elmer’s Restaurant in Vancouver is being sued for $100,000 after allegedly making an African American man prepay for his meal last December.

A cab driver in Aloha crashed into a convenience store after a man he was giving a lift to refused to pay the full fare and offered weed instead. Cops think the crash was an accident. That cab driver was having a rough night.

A driver in Michigan was arguably having an even worse day, maybe. He suffered a medical emergency, lost control of his Ford Mustang, and ended up the roof of a house.

Portland City Council next week will address a proposed fossil fuel policy that local activists are saying would be the toughest in the US and would send a strong message to oil companies. Shell Oil is apparently already getting that message. The company reported a loss in the third quarter of this year.

Whoops: A blimp meant to detect a missile attack came loose from its moorings and floated free in the Maryland area on Wednesday. It floated around for several hours before being grounded in Pennsylvania.

  1. Mike Scheckla likes the idea of having affordable housing at the Memorial Coliseum, but would prefer renovating the penthouse at the Rose Quarter into studio apartments with a view of the games and with room service included.
