Gretchen Kafoury, a former Portland city commissioner and state lawmaker best known for her stalwart support of affordable housing and women’s rights, died yesterday at 72. Our condolences to Kafoury’s family, including Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury, her daughter.

In other well-wishing news: We feel tricked. Yesterday, GMN told US Attorney Amanda Marshall to feel better, after a story that she’d left office indefinitely because of health issues. But it looks like health issues weren’t the only thing at play! She’s under investigation for erratic behavior and an inappropriate relationship with one of her underlings.

As The Turncoat Denis C Theriault reported the other day, Gov. Kate Brown renewed a controversial clean fuels program this week, prompting strong oaths from Republicans, who swear they’ll obstruct attempts to raise the gas tax. That could be bad news for Portland, which is counting on a gas tax increase to help fund road repairs. Mayor Charlie Hales’ office tells the Mercury the mayor’s not worried just yet. A lot can happen between now and June.

Clackamas County is drafting new rules around medical marijuana dispensaries. Think they’re sensible guidelines that enable a fair, even distribution of a legal business? You’re wrong.

Senior citizens are going to have to pay more under TriMet’s new proposed budget. The rest of us are supposed to get better service with no fare increase.

Just as Woodstock attendees needed to beware the infamous Brown Acid, so should Multnomah County inmates fear the weird synthetic heroin going around, and all of us should fear that Blue Bell ice cream bar at grandma’s house.

No one’s sure where Vladimir Putin is.

As Jeb Bush was gleefully poking at Hillary Clinton for her questionable decision to do the State’s business on her personal email account, he neglected to mention he’d been flouting for years a Florida law that required him to hand over his own emails.

Read this Guardian account of the shooting of an unarmed—though maybe violently hallucinating—young man in Madison last week.
