GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND! Now there is no sound, if we all live underground. And now it’s virtual insanity, forget your virtual reality. LET’S GO TO PRESS.

Apparently one of Paul Manafort’s lawyers has been gabbing to Trump’s lawyers about what the president’s criminal cohort has been saying to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. It’s almost like Manafort knows he’s a traitorous criminal and is angling for a pardon!

In a interview with the Washington Post, Trump once again said a bunch of bullshit that isn’t worth anyone’s time, and is better off ignored. NEXT!

Frightened by the flip-flopping stock market and GM layoffs, Trump is suddenly once again interested in making trade deals with China.

A Senate panel has hit the brakes on a confirmation hearing for Trump’s pick to run ICE, saying the nominee refused to say no to Trump’s idea about separating migrant children from their parents.

House Democrats are meeting today to nominate their speaker, and currently Nancy Pelosi remains unopposed despite the two dozen members calling for fresh leadership.

Republican and Confederate sympathizer Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi has won her senate seat despite a strong performance by Democrat Mike Espy.

Black box data procured from the wreckage of last month’s Lion Air jetliner crash indicate that the pilots were repeatedly fighting the plane’s haywire controls before eventually losing their battle.

SAD NEWS: Stephen Hillenberg, the creator of the much-beloved SpongeBob SquarePants has died at the age of 57 after being afflicted with Lou Gerhrig’s disease.

Today’s Headline That Will Make You Want to Murder Everyone on Earth: “Officials release video from gender reveal party that ignited a 47,000-acre wildfire.”

To the shock of absolutely no one, Northwest Portland residents are trying to appeal a new affordable housing project because they don’t like the building’s “aesthetics.” (Are they literally trying to be gross?)

After pressure from the trucking lobby, Portland City Council may be backpedaling on their promise to tax large trucks that should be paying their fair share for damaging the city’s roads.

And now, let’s chat about the WEATHER: Another wet day with a high of 52, but expect a bit more “dry” tomorrow.

And finally, how about a little real life horror to start the morning? This guy tries hang gliding for the first time… but the instructor forgets to attach him to the glider. WHOOPSY.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

One reply on “Good Morning, News: Rich Portlanders vs. Affordable Housing, Another Sketchy Trump Nominee, and Manafort Goes Fishing for Pardons”

  1. I’ve never ridden nor driven a kite like that, or been a bird so I haven’t a clue what I’m talking about, but WHY did they Go DOWN the mountain?!?! Perhaps being off-balance prevented any right-hand turns? Horrifying.
