Sad news out of Washington. Dane Reister, the former Portland police officer fired, then prosecuted, for shooting a fleeing suspect with live shotgun rounds he believed were “less-lethal” beanbags, apparently stepped in front of a moving train in Washougal yesterday. He was 43 years old, the O says.
So much shouting! But as usual no credit in this KGW copycat job of our Saturday story about a police homeless campsite crackdown slated to begin today.
Seattle’s talking about building another protected bike lane. Chicago just got another one. We’re not talking so much, here, though a big downtown project is expected in the near future. In the mean time, cyclists and pedestrians have a whole lane of northbound Naito Parkway to themselves.
The Associated Press would have us believe it’s not a big deal to find a bunch of brains lying in the street. Disregard that message.
Is a new cable industry mega-player approaching to help us better channel our hate and disappointments? Looks like probably. Charter Communications is trying to buy Time Warner Cable. Comcast just tried that, but the feds said it was no good. If Charter succeeds, it’ll be Comcast’s top competitor, and you’ll still be watching Game of Thrones illegally on the internet.
Welcome, Cleveland! The Mistake By The Lake has settled with the US Department of Justice over police abuses, just like us! It’ll presumably adopt a similar framework to the ones Portland and other cities have put into place (singular though ours might be) to atone for its problems. Problems like, you know, when a cop jumps on the hood of a car and unloads 15 shots at two unarmed suspects through the windshield.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: A Washington climate activist who chained herself to the anchor of an oil-seeking ship for three days was showing “signs of hypothermia” so how can she say the planet’s getting hotter?
We were all thinking 89-year-old BB King must have been poisoned. Thank god his daughters are saying it.
An argument some Iraqi and American military types are making: We’d be beating the hell out of ISIS right now if only we were more willing to kill civilians.
Here’s some sun now that your long weekend has passed.

I forgot about this video, and so forgot that I’ve technically been a big wrestling fan ever since I saw it like three years ago. Big wrestling fan.
