GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND! Feels so good being bad, there’s no way I’m turning back. Now the pain is for pleasure, ’cause nothing can measure. LET’S GO TO PRESS.

No major ice or snow worries this morning, but authorities are advising those commuting in the Portland metro area to be wary of slick spots, and that more white stuff may be on the way Friday evening.

In last night’s mostly forgettable State of the Union speech, Trump had the gall to call for cooperation after spending the last two years screwing over the country, while ridiculing the necessary investigations against him. Democrats were not having it, and threw plenty of shade in response.

Meanwhile Democrat Stacey Abrams was the first Black woman to deliver the SOTU’s official rebuttal, and made a strong case for protecting immigrants and fighting back against Trump’s racist wall.

Here’s something else for Republicans to shrug about and ignore: Four of Trump’s early trips to Mar-a-lago cost American taxpayers $3.4 million EACH.

Presidential contender Sen. Elizabeth Warren has apologized for identifying herself as a Native American for almost 20 years.

Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam is still refusing to step down after alleged racist yearbook pictures were discovered on Friday—and now the state’s Republicans are rushing to his defense.

Pope Francis has confirmed that nuns have been sexually abused by members of the clergy, saying “It’s not that everyone does this, but there have been priests and bishops who have.” Are we supposed to breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn’t “everyone”?

IN LOCAL NEWS: A “mobile gun battle” took place last night on I-205 and 84 as two suspects fired at police as they sped from Vancouver into Portland. One Vancouver officer was hurt, but will survive. The two suspects were eventually stopped and taken into custody.

City officials and private developers have kicked off their plan to build a “navigation center” for homeless Portlanders that will connect them with health care, addiction recovery programs, and provide 120 temporary shelter beds. Our Alex Z has the report.

An Oregon state representative came up with an idea to change the name of the Portland Trail Blazers to the Oregon Trail Blazers. Um, NO.

Psst! Come see Mohanad tonight on the hilarious I, Anonymous Show!

Now let’s look skyward to the WEATHER: A nice, dry, sunny day with a high of 41!

And finally, do you get as excited for breakfast as this golden retriever? I DO, TOO!

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
