The traffic alerts are streaming in because the AFL-CIO is planning a major march this afternoon in support of Occupy Portland.

The march route loops around downtown during rush hour, starting at 5PM in Director Park.

Big labor groups on the East Coast have thrown their support behind the protest, even though union’s strict organizational structure couldn’t be more different from the loose, anarchic Occupy. Union support makes the protest mainstream—and can lead to major donations of time, money, and expertise.

Sarah Shay Mirk reported on transportation, sex and gender issues, and politics at the Mercury from 2008-2013. They have gone on to make many things, including countless comics and several books.

  1. Unions protesting outrageous benefits from those who work to pay taxes.

While purposefully making those people’s workday lives harder.

    That oughtta work.

  2. Let’s see, D does not like Union Protest marches or protests in general because he’s busy working and hippies will one day die. Ok.
