Michael Cohen is going to prison.
The disgraced lawyer was sentenced Wednesday to 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to a whole bevy of crimes related to Donald Trump, including financial crimes, lying to Congress, and campaign finance violations for paying off porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, both of whom claim to have slept with the President while he was married.
Cohen, who requested probation rather than prison time, reportedly gave a tearful speech at his sentencing.
“I blame myself for the conduct which has brought me here today,” Cohen said, “and it was my own weakness and a blind loyalty to this man that led me to choose a path of darkness over light.”
He also implicated the President. “Time and time again," Cohen continued, "I felt it was my duty to cover up his dirty deeds.”
Trump, who disavowed Cohen when he started working with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, has yet to weigh in on the sentencing, but the chances that he'll tweet something petty from the golf course are 100 percent. As for how this will ultimately affect the Trump presidency, stay tuned.
