On his first day in office, Obama issued the order to shut down Guantanamo. Two years later, 173 captives still remain there. As researcher Andy Worthington writes, it looks like Guantanamo might become a permanent institution.

  1. the good news is, there used to be over 800 inhabitants. the ones remaining are the difficult cases, the ones we can’t just send home or somewhere else. the problem is getting them to trial. although not enough emphasis can be placed on the fact that they all deserve one.
