With over 24 hours down, Occupy Portland has gone comparably smoother than other occupations across the country. Specifically, the mothership, Occupy Wall Street.

Despite growing Democrat support, NYC Republican Mayor Micheal Bloomberg blamed protesters for “trying to destroy the jobs of working people in this city.”

“You can’t have it both ways,” Bloomberg said during a radio appearance. “If you want jobs you have to assist companies and give them confidence to go and hire people.” Additionally, NYPD hasn’t had the cleanest record, using pepper spray and batons to ward off the “mob.”

Meanwhile in downtown Portland, Mayor Sam Adams has made his support known with occasional appearances and the patrolling police are anything but hostile (could be the overtime they’re racking up) and are accommodating to the protesters’ requests.

Even Seattle falls short, with the police arresting 25 protesters who refused to move from Westlake Park after setting up camp. But Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn has shown sympathy: “The right to protest in Seattle is a cherished one and one we uphold.”

For now, Portland has shown the most support of its occupiers with little upset. Let’s hope it stays that way.

  1. “Despite Democratic support”
    or
“Despite the growing support of Democrats”.

It’s the “Democratic” party, not the “Democrat” party. “A Democrat” is an individual who is a member of the party, while “Democrats” refers to multiple persons who are members of the party.

Your phrasing, “Despite growing Democrat” support is grammatically incorrect, and reinforces a Republicon name-calling meme (see how that works?), unless you are specifically referring to one individual Democrat who happens to be growing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I thought NY crowds, in particular, were alot more rowdy than a Portland crowd could ever be.
Could this explain a little of it?

  3. The root reason for the, โ€œOccupy erโ€™sโ€ and the โ€œ99% erโ€™sโ€. Gaze upon it if you dare. Maybe this will help make the danger of fiat money clear. Imagine you and me are setting across from each other. We create enough money to represent all of the world’s wealth. Each one of us has one SUPER Dollar in front of him. You own half of everything and so do I. I’m the government though. I get bribed into creating a Central Bank. You’re not doing what I want you to be doing so I print up myself eight more SUPER Dollars to manipulate you with. All of a sudden your SUPER Dollar only represents one tenth of the wealth of the world! That isn’t the only thing though. You need to get busy and get to work because YOU’VE BEEN STIFFED with the bill for the money I PRINTED UP to get YOU TO DO what I WANTED. That to me represents what has been happening to the economy, and us, and why so many of our occupations just can’t keep up with the fake money presses.
