In the state to help out Kurt Schrader‘s congressional campaign, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi carved out half an hour to chat about Barack Obama with the “Women for Change” assembled at Multnomah County Chair Ted Wheeler’s house. Wheeler’s wife Katrina introduced Pelosi, who spoke about children’s health care, equal pay for women, social security, and choice–issues she hopes can be addressed if Obama is elected president. “He’s a steady, steady leader,” she said. “A person of great vision, of great intellect.”

Despite Obama’s strong poll numbers, she said “we cannot be overconfident.”

“We’re not counting any chickens before they hatch,” she added.

She also took questions on what can be done to help small business owners, the importance of electing Jeff Merkley to the Senate, and how that bailout’s going. I hope to upload the audio shortly.
