Bob Dylan: Overrated, Underrated or Rated?

For those who decide to automatically reward Dylan with an “underrated” designation without even thinking about it, you may also be interested in the results of our recent “handjob” poll.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. Overrated ….and leaning into irrelevant.

    Preaching Christianity at his concerts?

Maliciously toying with tripping reporters on camera like a cat with a mouse …just to show what a big bad powerful Rockstar you are? (Vis ‘Never Look Back’ or whatever it was called)

    No class.

Doing the whole ‘We’re in love! / Now we’re not!’ thing with Joan Baez to attract more teeny boppers to buy more records.

Changing your last name to sell sell sell ! (yourself.)

    Etc.

  2. I like “Highway 61 Revisited” as much as the next dude but what have you done for me lately and all. Rated, he’s got a good rep, so.

  3. Preaching Christianity and mumbling for $$$ go hand-in-hand. Overrated.

  4. Colin, you ever seen the guy live? Most disappointing show I have ever attended. Mutters every line incoherently, doesn’t play a single note on guitar….it’s just shitty.
