Right 2 Dream Too co-founder Ibrahim Mubarak—whose whereabouts became the subject of a massive social media push this weekend, after he was last heard from Wednesday—has surfaced and is “okay,” according to City Commissioner Amanda Fritz.

Word came during what would have been Right 2 Dream Too’s regular meeting with city hall. Fritz said more information would be forthcoming. A friend of Mubarak’s confirmed he’d been in contact, saying Mubarak called his wife, Lisa Fay, this morning and told her he’d be coming home—but that he didn’t know anything else.

Fay recently posted this on his public Facebook page:

Ibrahim just called me to say he is okay. Don’t have details but would be home tonight. He apologizes for creating such a concern. And wants everyone to know how grateful he is to hear about all the love and support for the both of us their is in the community.

Earlier today, Mubarak’s worried friends and family, including Fay, had been planning a candlelight vigil in Mubarak’s honor at 6 tonight at Pioneer Courthouse Square. They said Mubarak last spoke with Fay on Wednesday, five days ago, when he said he was coming home after spending time with a friend. Mubarak, Fay told a friend, never showed up. He’d just gotten back to town after a trip to San Francisco.

Police told me this morning that they didn’t know anything but would check to see if anyone had filed a report. Sources in city hall, however, were closely watching all the back and forth and looking for information.

Worry grew to fear as the days ticked by and Mubarak missed other appointments, including a sitdown last Thursday with a journalist who reached out to the Mercury after we posted on Saturday. Over the weekend, Mubarak missed the opening of a local Homeless Bill of Rights campaign office and Right 2 Dream Too’s weekly Sunday meeting.

“Those are things he wouldn’t miss,” said Keith Fons, one of the organizers of the vigil and a longtime friend of Mubarak’s.

On Saturday, sources told the Mercury they were holding out hope Mubarak had merely gone somewhere to decompress (or worse) and would resurface. But the longer he went without getting in touch, the more concerned everyone grew, leading to the call to arms on Facebook over the weekend.

  1. Yes, Ibrahim Mubarak has called Lisa Fay this morning. More detail will be forth coming on facebook as we hear them.
I am ever so grateful for all the love, prayers and community support that has come from here in Portland and across the country. Everyone really rallied in solidarity a ‘call to arms’ to locate Ibrahim and show support for the two of us.
This has been very worrisome and exhausting for all who have known him. Ibrahim has touch and reached so many lives over the years in so many cities and countries across the globe in his fights for Human Rights. Ibrahim works tirelessly for all of us in the community and we want him back, safe!

  2. Really good news: Ibrahim Mubarak is OK and he and his wife Lisa Fay have expressed gratitude to the community for their support and love. Ib is such a public figure these days and so heavily involved in helping the houseless, both here in Portland and many other places, that it must be very hard for him when things just get so overwhelming that he needs to take off and find some time and space for himself. He has always been so generous with me in Right 2 Survive, allowing me sabbaticals to deal with the overwhelming problems I have had, and really never demanding more than I could manage, and staying a loving and supportive friend throughout my long ordeal. I am so glad to know he is OK, and I am hoping that if he ever needs to take off and get time for himself in the future, people will remember how loving and supportive he has been to others in that situation. Thank God for Ibrahim Mubarak.

  3. At some point he will have to address what has happen. But for now his homecoming is going to be more important. I believe for awhile we need to find ways to spread the ever increasing demands of his time and attention, so that he can breathe, the way he has done for so many.
Ibrahim is a really strong man that shoulders so much of others pain that at times he forgets to care for himself. We need to make sure this doesn’t happen. There is no containing the love and compassion he feels in his heart for people. And people should respect this and know that there are boundaries and limits for everyone. It is cruel to constantly be crossing and destroying these boundaries at the expense of those we claim to love and respect

  4. Frankie “B”:

Frank Biggs. That’s your name. But you go as Frankie B, because you think you’re something special. But you’re just a redneck that was dumb enough to enlist for the war in Vietnam.

You sell RVs at B Young RV, because you’re too angry to be anything other than a salesman.

You say you “blog” for an archery sight under the name “Bwana Bubba”, which is funny, because you are a “bubba”. You probably think being a troll is blogging, too.

You think you’re going to write a book, but trust me, nobody wants to read your crap. You like to think you’re an expert in things like “global positioning system training”. Really? Anybody can use a GPS, Frankie. You probably think you can train people to use their smartphones at work, am I right?

Frank, you are, above all A HUGE TROLL. You say you are a hunter, and expert with bow sights. Well, Frank, I hunt trolls. And I just caught one of the biggest in Portland: FrankieB.
Perhaps they didn’t teach you anything about the internet at the Naval Communications Training Center. You are not as smart as you think.

You have no friends on your profile, but 3134 posts. Troll.

You know, I think I know some homeless people that need RVs. I’m going bring them to you to use your incredible intellect and knowledge to choose an RV that’s right for them. They have to live under bridges right now, which you should understand, since you are a troll: don’t trolls live under bridges?

You know nothing about Ibrahim, or the other people your trash, taunt, insult and attack online. But Ibrahim is going to know everything about you. Good luck with that.
