Check out this video that depicts the Portland Audubon Society rescuing a big female bald eagle from a fishing line, nursing her back to health, and then releasing her in front of a gaping crowd at Waterfront Park. And then think to yourself, “Maybe this world isn’t so bad after all.” Nice work, guys.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. Why is it relevant that the eagle was female, Steve? Can’t we even have gender-neutral feel-good animal posts anymore?

Also, the fact she was big is sizeist.

  2. I completely applaud this.
But if that eagle ever thinks of my toy poodle in the back yard as a bunny fit for a meal, I will hunt her down and kill her.
Yeah, that’s right, I said it.
