… And it’s going to be pretty close. Even with that $10,000 donation, the venerable NW theater’s first foray into crowdfunding will need a surge of contributions before Saturday if it’s going to meet its goal.

Granted, there are a lot of sexier things to crowdfund than “new seats,” but I’ll point you to the Mercury‘s interview with Cinema 21 owner Tom Ranieri as to why all this matters, and I’ll add that for anyone who even remotely gives a shit about movies, it’s hard to overestimate how much better Portland’s film scene is thanks to Cinema 21.

I chipped in at the T-shirt level. If, on the other hand, you’re a rich fan of the Mercury‘s Savage Love and HUMP!, it behooves me to note that a couple of those $1,500 dinners with Dan Savage are still available as backer rewards.
