In a recent online survey for Travel + Leisure, Portland scored very well in a few areas, beating out other prominent US cities in several “Quality of Life” categories. In fact, Portland is numero uno for environmental awareness, safety, cleanliness, public transportation and pedestrian friendliness, and public parks and access to the outdoors.
However, Portland ranked #19 out of 25 for “weather,” #20 for “wild weekend” (do they know about the strip clubs?), and a shameful #24 for “luxury boutiques.” Ouch.
Portland’s residents rank smack in the middle in terms of the all-important attractiveness category (Miami takes top honors, but Stumptown beat out the uggos of Seattle, Chicago, Boston, D.C, and Philly, amongst others); but we are above average in friendliness, intelligence, and athleticism. However, we are below average in diversity and stylishness.
As everyone knows, the results of these types of surveys are indisputable fact and thus must be accepted as gospel truth. View the complete results and rankings here.

I can’t figure out what the little blue and white Portland logo on the map is. An acorn? A stout beetle? I must be diminishing our intelligence rating.
An interstate road sign? No fucking clue.
Do you think Matt Davis stayed up for days on end to vote and revote Portland worst in everything?
Did you happen to notice that Portlandโs overall people score was 4.20? The guy who lives in the VW in my ally will be so pleased.

Beantown has been CLOBBERED with the ugly stick. The people not the architecture.
I should show this to my father, who complains every time he comes to visit about how ugly “and badly coiffed” everyone in Portland is.
travelandleisure.com‘s got an America’s Favorite Cities bracket game and Portland’s pitted against Austin this week. Vote!
