call a bail bondsman.
My phone book lists about ten of them (under “repossessing services”). Coolest name: “Relentless Recovery.”
I hope inability to use a phone directory doesn’t disqualify you from consideration for a Pulitzer.
Kidding. Have a good evening.
No, really. It does. I was looking for “repo man.”
All this really means is that I am old enough to recall a time when the arcane art of physical phone book usage (and the corresponding head scratching over possible synonyms) was more necessary than now.
Here is a decent story along similar lines, about boat repossessions, which I recall from a few months ago:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/20/business/20repo.html
and the “where on earth do i find dry ice? really, i tried!” post is no longer Matt’s laziest ever…
I think they’re on a secret list.
Call some of the towing companies. Some tow companies drivers are also repo men.
The easiest way to find Repo Man is to buy a used car from a dealership on 82nd Ave, then don’t make your weekly payment. He’ll be there that night.
I’ve called 20 repo men. None of them are willing to let a reporter follow them around for a few hours.
Which really makes me want to follow one of them around for a few hours.
because it’s such uncharted territory, isn’t it? keep up the good work, chap…
Have a woman call instead, that might get you in the door at least :/
Many of these repo men operate on the edge of the law which is why you will be hard-pressed to find one who will let you accompany him.
I know that Oregon law does not permit bounty hunters to operate in our state legally; so, I am not sure whether or not repo-men are covered on that statute or not either.
