It’s been a rough day for Lucasfilm—an unfinished version of the theatrical poster for Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace 3D was accidentally leaked online this morning. Despite never being meant for the public, this early mock-up spread like wildfire on the internet. Since the genie’s out of the bottle, we might as well post that conceptual version here—
—but please, remember: That that is not the actual poster for the film. Exclusive to the Portland Mercury, the real, finished poster for Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace 3D can be found below. “Here’s hoping some people see this,” writer/director George Lucas said in a quick phone interview just a few moments ago. “At no small expense, we’ve painstakingly converted this film into dazzling 3D, and we worked hard to reimagine the poster, too. I’d hate to think that, based on an early, unfinished poster design, people might get the wrong idea about what to expect from this much-anticipated 3D rerelease of The Phantom Menace.”
Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace will be rereleased in 3D on February 10, 2012.

Looks about as good as the shitty photoshop they’ve been using for their DVD covers. Why even do this dumb shit when you have all that sweet ass Drew Struzan art at your disposal?
I HOPE THEY DECIDE BETWEEN NOW AND THEN TO CANCEL THE WHOLE THING.
I HAD THAT CAN OF PEPSI. IT WAS DELICIOUS.
But seriously. Unless they’ve rewored the ending to include a lightsaber duel between Obi-wan and Jar Jar, ending in Jar Jar being sliced in half, I won’t be seeing this.
And who really cares? There’s a set of the population that will see this regardless of the crappy poster.
LOL THEY MADE IT SHITTiER
ALSO PEPSI CAN
***Those cans are collectables…
And who cares about Darth Maul anyways? His powers include 1) flipping and 2) not talking. Look out, universe!
I used to have all those cans, UNOPENED!!!! After about, oh, eight years, the pop corroded the can and got mountain dew, et al, all over my batman stuff. I stopped collecting around that time.
Doesn’t Batman stuff have the anti corrosive cover if its based after the 2nd movie? It should have it.
…in one of the movies after an acid attack his tools were covered with anti-corrosives if I remember well. In the TV series too, at some point. But those were non-lineal, and maybe didn’t follow a tools time line and all that stuff. In the DC comics “world”, who knows, there are too many writers with their own versions…which is cool.
Ugh, fuck you George Lucas!
Such criticism. I figured obsessive nerds everywhere have huge spontanious collective nerdgasms everytime George Lucas so much as spits and farts.
@DamosA: I think Episode I is universally hated and scorned.
Well i wouldn’t know, i’m not into all this nerd shit. I just assumed.
I hope the 3D remake is this one

Actually the Phantom Edit sucked too but with less JarJar.
Does anyone want to buy that talking JarJar I stole in the office move ?
Throw more shit on that poster, maybe it’ll stick.
Ugh. I’m no Star Wars geek, but I’ll never forget the creeping horror/dawning realization as I watched Phantom Menace that it was total crap and the original movie was only good due to nostalgia.
