Vatican: Pope may apologize for abuse by priests

Pope Benedict XVI may issue a mea culpa for the church’s handling of clerical sexual abuse cases when he attends a meeting of the world’s clergy in June, the Vatican official in charge of handling abuse cases said.

He may apologize? You mean he hasn’t already? And now that someone brought it to his attention that he hasn’t quite got around to apologizing yet, the pope is hesitating? He’s got to mull this apology thing over for a bit? And it turns out he’s not really even thinking about apologizing to the children who were raped for the rapes, but only apologizing for the church’s “handling of clerical sexual abuse cases”?

Words fail.

  5. I wrote a long vitriolic posting about how insane this is, how stupid people are to believe religious institutions at all, how stupidity appears contagious. But I didn’t, I stopped and erased it. I said, “No. It’s all been said and done. What could I possibly add?” But again, I reversed myself, and here I am writing again.
    So why read this from someone so unsure? Because that’s exactly the point. Everyone is unsure, they are scared, they need comfort and a pat on the head. That is where religion comes in. It gives a simple and easy answer to all of the most scary keep-you-up-at-night questions. It makes you feel warm and safe, and maybe more importantly, it’s divine nature allows you to always be right.
    So go ahead, bury your heads in the sand and plug your ears to absolute proof that, beyond comfort, this fairytale is and has been not much more than a base of power for evil and complicit men to exploit you.
    However, when you ignore the damage being done by these people, it’s the responsibility of reasonable people of all faiths to put a stop to it. So how long are we going to let these trusted institutions spread lies, collect money, and confound the efforts of health experts? Please live your ethos; Love your brother, , do unto others, and tell the pope to F__CK OFF!

  8. The current pope dissuaded the last pope from naming a non-pedophile to the post of cardinal. Reason? Said rejected candidate’s Phd was in philosophy and not religion. Then the current pope, the rat, we should call him, got John Paul to choose the rat’s favorite candidate, who went on to become cardinal of Vienna. Problem was, it was an open secret at this person’s rectory of origin that he was a pedophile.

    Zombiesai is terrifyingly on the mark, that people could be so accepting of this abomination of a pope. Whole swathes of Catholics in Austria have gone nuts and are trying to wrest control of the church from the vatican. good luck to them.
