Sounds like the Neil Goldschmidt child rape story.
Except he received no punishment, nobody was arrested, and the victim’s public shaming and ultimate demise were drawn out over nearly 30 years.
(See, there’s no religious excuse necessary where the exploitation of women and children is concerned.)
Ugh, fuck god.
Dan, you realize this is analogous to Dr. Laura making claims about gays based on incidences of pederasty. Can’t we fucking get passed this shit? I’m not even religious and I’m sick of it. Prejudice is prejudice is prejudice. Moving from culturally encouraged homophobia to culturally encouraged militant atheism is teh lame.
I’m not too crazy about the fact that God is a complete non-entity when everything seems right with the world, but is immediately mentioned as a first cause when things go glaringly wrong. To say this is primarily or even ultimately God’s fault is to eliminate the human element entirely. If these people understood God, they would know that He says “Thou shalt not kill” because He puts infinite value on a human life. Also, He loves us like crazy, so He gets pretty upset when one of us dies. But these people apparently ignored that memo, because they chose to do this horrific, senselessly unfair act. And God allowed them to, even though it was at the expense of someone else. “But why?” is a question that I’ve asked many times. This is the closest I’ve come to an answer: if God were to force us to do what is right, it would be at His and our own expense, and would therefore be wrong. And God cannot do wrong. So God will never take our free choice away from us, even when we decide to do dreadful things, like blaspheme Him by killing others in His name.
My point, in short, for the tl;dr crowd: we all choose to be crappy. We shouldn’t, but we do nonetheless. God loves us, so, even though it breaks His heart, He allows us to.
(Sorry if I offended anyone. Everyone just always dogs on God and I really love Him, so I had to say something.)
