Remember about a week ago when I rolled out the red carpet for new Trail Blazer Wesley Matthews? Well, I was a little premature in that announcement. His former team, the Utah Jazz, had a week to dig through their sofa cushions in an attempt to match Portland’s bloated five-year, $33.4 million offer. Sadly they only found $33.3 million in there, which means Matthews is now a Blazer.
Want proof? Well, here is Matthews signing some kid’s forehead at PDX airport last night (photo courtesy of the Twitter feed of Blazers PR guy, Jim Taylor). Never wash your head, little dude. If you want to find out more about Matthews, this OregonLive piece is a good place to start.
• He goes by Wesley, not Wes.
• Yes, he is the son of former NBA player Wes Matthews, but he was raised by his mother, who is also a star athlete and kind of bristles in interviews when people try to credit his dad over his mom as the reason he made it to the NBA.
/Note to self: No mom jokes at media day.
In less exciting news, Juwan Howard is taking his “talents to South Beach” and has signed with the Miami Heat. Miami? Name three things that team has and the Blazers don’t. Oh, wait, nevermind. Juwan, thanks for your time in Portland and congratulations in advance for winning the 2010-2011 NBA championship.

Aw, no more Juwan?
When will the trading be over? This period of time really confuses me… I just want to know what the final roster for the 2010-2011 season is.
Anyway, welcome Wesley!
Three things, huh??? Jamaal Magloire, James Jones, and now Howard. Blazers had ’em all for a year.
