Something happened yesterday. Something that had people leaping up and down all over the world. Witness:

Side Note. To the Dude in Arkansas (2:45 mark) and the Guy in His Basement (3:24 mark): Who videotapes themselves watching the TV?

Oh, and if you don’t have World Cup Fever yet, then go to a YouTube video and click on the little soccer button. It’ll make you feel like you’re right there in South Africa!

Hat tip to Ezra and his buddy Jeff. Ezra is not only kickin’ it realz with the LIVE Blazer draft coverage but is also now a committed World Cup Fan.

  1. I just got an email from a friend I haven’t seen in a few years. It was a 3000 (rough estimate) word stream of consciousness rant immediately following the game yesterday.

    A very small sampling below.

“if you or someone you know suddenly exploded into a frenetic celebratory dance while running and screaming with their arms waving wildly and out of control, if they shook you and bear hugged you while lifting you off the floor, squeezing you til you thought you were going to pop, if they got right up in your grill and yelled at you but not at you while jumping in front of you and accidentally repeatedly stomped on your toes or kneed you in the face, if they suddenly became extremely religious and a little too excitedly started thanking god and staring a little too intensely at the heavens, if their unrecognizable exclamations were delivered via supremely bugged out eyes and highly exaggerated facial expressions that made you think there was some sort of sci-fi-based disaster headed towards your exact location involving aliens with lasers and the likes of king kong–if any of these things happened at the precise millisecond when (oh crap, here come the tears again) our beloved landon lovingly placed the ball neatly (with authority) at the back of the net, pushing the u.s. into the freaking awesomeness of all the universes of all the worlds in all of existences EVER–well, then, i really feel for you. i, too, was a victim of all of the above”

I think ESPN should hire her.

  2. Soccer sucks huh? Nobody in America likes it.

The Timbers beat the Kitsap Pumas and they’re playing on the 30th at PGE Park in the US Open Cup. Buy a ticket and support the hometown team.

  3. I think I’ve seen 10 fake injuries this World Cup at this point? Who the fuck cares?

  4. AWESOME!

It’s hard not to think soccer’s popularity has turned a corner when bars in Kentucky are packed.

But what I really want from this thread is someone to remind me that soccer is lame, lecture boringly that our society is too obsessed with sports and for some female to remark that she doesn’t even own a TV.

  5. My favorite part is the 1:02 moment when the cameraman takes the opportunity to covertly film the (admittedly quite nice) butt off the woman standing in front of him.
