Conservative commentators are trying their damndest to insinuate that Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is gay. How? Because, guys… SHE PLAYS SOFTBALL! I mean, duh! Softball? Gay? Softball = gay? Softball is the same thing as gay? PUT IT TOGETHER, ALREADY.
(By the way, the Mercury Softball Team won our first game of the season against Red Flag last Sunday. Both teams are gay.)

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. “Softball bat symbolizes a certain lifestyle.”

Crap, I have a trunk full of “certain lifestyle” in our parking lot right now.

  2. I love that the lady co-anchoring the NBC broadcast becomes so clearly disgusted with the conversation and the dude sitting next to her when he busts out the Indigo Girls line.

Also, how amazing is the Fox News blonde saying “by the way, a fact, her gayness, the White House denies,” as her voice slinks higher and higher into dog whistle territory, likely embarrassed to be associated with her crazy claims.

  3. When I was little my mom wouldn’t let me play softball because she said it was too boring.

But…maybe she was trying to repress something in me?

I’m so confused. When is Lilith Fair? I need to think about some things.

  4. When I was younger my whole family played baseball/softball but me. I’m the only one who turned out queer. Now I’m confused and have to sell my tickets for the Lilith Fair.

  5. When will the Portland Mercury softball team finally accept our challenge to a friendly game? as the captain of the Bizzaro world Merc team (aka the Willamette Week), we would gladly supply the strap-ons … i mean baseball bats

  6. Wait, isn’t regular Wm. Steven Humphrey evil enough as is?

And Evil Steve, we actually play the WW in a (moderately friendly) game later this Summer. See you there?
