According to Mike Tokito at the O, the Portland Trail Blazers may be losing All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge to another team in free agency. This disappointing revelation came courtesy of Assistant Coach Kim Hughes who blurted it out during an interview with an Indiana TV station on Tuesday. Here’s what he said.

“We didn’t publicize it but we lost LaMarcus Aldridge. It hasn’t been declared yet but I’m sure he won’t come back. We will go young…”

You can watch the video herebut is it true? The Oregonian‘s Jason Quick casts some doubt on the situation:

But enough about the will-he-won’t-he Aldridge, the Blazers, and its blabber-mouth coaching staff… WHAT ABOUT IAN KARMEL??

As you know, Ian’s entire column this week was a painful (perhaps pitiful?) plea/manipulation to talk Aldridge into staying on the team. Here’s a sample of where Aldridge should definitely not go.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

SAN ANTONIO—The Spurs! The dominant basketball program of this modern NBA. LaMarcus went to college right up the road in Austin, and Austin is full of amazing music and great bars and… BATS? That’s right, bats. Austin, Texas, is full of bats, yeah—though it’s not like EVERY bat is a vampire. I mean, call any scientist and ask them, “Are all bats vampires?” They’ll say no. But that doesn’t mean some bats aren’t vampires. Is LaMarcus really ready to run that risk? Playing basketball down the road from a bunch of dope-smoking queso-dip vampires? Also, Tony Parker could be the bad guy in a Tyler Perry movie and then, without skipping a beat, be the bad guy in a Liam Neeson movie.

READ THE REST HERE. Most worryingly of all… has anybody talked to or seen Ian recently? Here are his last two tweets—and if you ask me, they are forboding.

IAN!!! IT’S NOT WORTH IT!!! Please don’t do anything drastic! (Unless of course, Aldridge goes to the Lakers. Then we’ll join you.)

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
