Old-yet-breaking news from Marc Spears at Yahoo Sports:
Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez wants to return to Europe to play and has no interest in NBA trade, his agent Andy Miller told Yahoo! Sports.
And then the O‘s Jason Quick reports this:
Rudy Fernandez will not report to the Trail Blazers training camp in October and the disgruntled guard has no intention of playing for the Blazers for the remaining two years of his contract, his agent said Wednesday.
Ruh roh! Of course it’s not news that Rudy wants out of Portland (and America), but previously this discussion had been linked to Spanish tabloid reporting and the mopey body language he put on display throughout last season. Truth be told Rudy was treated very well here in Portland. The Blazers’ offensive system never had have a starting role for the former European star, but his poor shooting, complete lack of defense, and playoff disappearing act didn’t help his cause. You’d be hard pressed to find more than a few teams that would start Rudy, and of those, none would be playoff-caliber squads. Plus the fans here adored Rudy. Well, at least they did. Today that comes to an abrupt end.
Plenty of players have valid reasons to sit out—Von Wafer comes to mind—but Rudy is scorching the earth with these comments. Oh well, looks like we’ll never see #5 in a Blazers uniform again.

Bummer! Cue the burning of Fernandez jerseys in the streets…
Well, we’ll always remember him for that dunk over Howard. Oh wait, he wasn’t a Blazer at the time? Damn.
Rudy better live in gated-community b/c Blazer honk will burn his house to the ground and then have off his scruffy beard
Well, that one landed with as much shock and awe as some geezer up in Minnesota deciding to blow it for another year. Anyone who is even remotely suprised needs to lay off the opiates, they’re said to crumble the memory, and keep in mind this whiny babbling princess has been blubbering about minutes since the play-offs ended- Last Year.
Which is why I didn’t mind watching KP be put to pasture. For christ sake, we all knew Ruby was headed to a Queens exile a year ago. He does play the two, after all, so barring injury big minutes were never in the cards. Not to mention his ‘head to the base line to get the inbounds pass’ defense and any casual pudding brained fan knew this would go sour with a knuckle cracking defense minded coach and a superstar ahead of him.
Alas, KP held fast while GM’s around the league openly commented he over valued his in house talent and refused to pull the trigger on deals which in retrospect, (Webster for a rookie & Ruby for probably two acres and a broken mule) makes the outcry over our lame ex-GM’s departure a bit goofy on most fronts.
KP stunted this team by refusing to part with his bounty, in large part to ego, and for that alone he had to be bounced like a bar regular who over stayed his welcome and became just a drunk….
Well…. that just makes him dumb and job-less & Ruby still a simple bitch who knows he’s about to be bludgeoned into ground beef by a defensive minded knuckle cracking new comer named Mathews.
What ever and good riddance. One can only hope the New Brass is on the phone this moment setting Ruby up with an internship at Sam Adams office, just to keep him busy, until December when we can ship him to the Bucks, or Minnesota. (How about for Ricky Rubio? It would give Quick and that egg head Canzano a chance to keep writing the same articles over, and over and over…..)
Releasing him would allow the Queen to return home and immediately receive a raise of about ten million, give or take. Why give in? Why set the precedent?
